Not to be confused with The Suspender Man.

"Mister robut I am The Suspender Man
And dis banjo has shown me the promised land.
Now I’ll play you a song but in return, you put dat shiny coin right 'ere in my urn.
And I’ll play you somethin fine. My music’s gonna blow your mind!”
- Mr. Gormley, The Suspender Man

Mr. Gormley,[1] more commonly known as The Suspender Man, was a banjo player rumored to have sold his soul to the bog for legendary musical skill and/or a pair of big red suspenders. He was met by Steam Powered Giraffe, who wrote their song The Suspender Man about their encounter with him, his rise to musical fame, and his subsequent disappearance.

In his hero song, Gormley's dialogue is sung by David Michael Bennett.

Appearance[]

Mr. Gormley is a portly man with a large grin. His hair and the upper half of his face are obscured by his black wide-brimmed hat, which has a large, curly feather and an "ace of hearts" playing card tucked into its red hatband. He wears a black button-down shirt, dark red pants, black boots, and a large, eyecatching pair of bright red suspenders with a white spiral pattern.

Personality and Traits[]

Mr Gormley is highly intelligent when it comes to matters of music and gathering a crowd. He is not known to harm folks, but rather to give them a good time. He has a thick southern accent (Specifically from Lousianna).

History[]

Gormley sat on a log in the bayou with his banjo and an urn for collecting payment, offering to play music for 2 cents per show. One night, Rabbit encountered him there and paid him to play a song, and she was awestruck by the performance, claiming she "ain't never heard anything so great". The song quickly attracted a crowd of fans to the swamp, sparking Gormley's popularity.

From there, Gormley and his banjo-playing swiftly became a sensation. He ended up on the front page of the local newspapers, and his iconic red suspenders became a new fashion trend.

However, on an unknown date in the middle of February, the violet bayou fog turned red, and Gormley vanished. His banjo and his suspenders were later found on his log. It's implied that the bog took Gormley's soul as payment or punishment for his deal, but his ultimate fate and current whereabouts are unknown.[2]

Trivia[]

  • "Gormley" is actually the Suspender Man's last name. His first name is unknown.[3]
  • In the San Diego Zoo era, he was called many different names, including Mr. McCauley,[4] Billy Johnson,[5] and Billy McDoogleson III.[6]
  • Rabbit claims that The Jon's red suspenders are the same ones left behind by Gormley when he vanished.[6]
